A Dream Come True in NYC: BlogHer 2010
It has almost been a full month since we launched the blog and we have been doing our best to provide content that is helpful and relevant to you, our readers.
Today, we just have to gush. And smile. And jump. And share. Share some amazing news about an opportunity we are being given – one that means the world to us.
On August 5, in New York City, we will be presenting at BlogHer 2010! Our panel is called “Gen Y Passionistas: Leaving the 9-to-5 To Pursue Your Passion“ and will focus on helping people jump the hurdles that stand between them and their dream job – entrepreneurial or otherwise!
For those who are unfamiliar with BlogHer, it is community of writers and readers (mostly women) that connect both online and off. This year’s BlogHer conference will be the 6th annual and will be attended by so many people and writers we admire – foodies, fashionistas, moms, executives, etc. It is the blogging conference to attend for women – and we are overwhelmed and excited about the opportunity to not only attend, but present. Right now, the conference is sold out. However, there is a waiting list that you should absolutely get on if you’re interested in attending!
Last year, we attended as BlogHer newbies, fresh at our jobs at The Agency and ready to soak in all that we could. We continue to be thankful for that opportunity as it helped us learn more about the power of women in blogging, as well as the impact it has on brands, businesses and word of mouth opinions.
We could go on for hours about how giddy we are over the opportunity to empower and encourage others to pursue their passion at this year’s conference – but we think you get the idea!
That said, we would love to hear what topics you think we should speak on. Or for that matter, which topics you would like us to cover on the blog. What do you think? Don’t be shy!
Looking forward to continuing the conversation!
Dream Bigger,

Congratulations! I wish I had some suggestions but I’m drawing a blank right now :-{
Thanks, John!
Congrats on such an amazing opportunity!! I’m attending BlogHer NYC and can’t wait to hear you ladies speak! I admire what you’ve done and am looking to become a nutrition entrepreneur once I complete my program to become a registered dietitian! I’d love to hear advice on what you would recommend your first steps to starting out would be, and some of the most rewarding (and also not so helpful) steps you took to launching your business. Thanks!
Hi Kristen!
First of all, thanks so much for the sweet comment. Jill and I can’t wait to meet you in NYC this August! Secondly, congrats on your dream to become a nutrition entrepreneur. As someone who enjoys reading and following your blog, I think you’d be perfect!
My advice on the first steps to starting out would be to look at what others are doing in your field and think of a way to set yourself apart. Filling a distinct need or niche in the marketplace is the best way to grow your “brand” (personal or business!) as it makes what you offer unique. Honestly, finding our niche has been the most rewarding step we’ve taken so far. Additionally, reaching out to people in your network can lead you to people and places you never would have dreamed of! But in terms of not so helpful, my advice would be don’t be afraid to say “no.” You will be amazed at the overwhelming opportunities that await you once you announce the decision to go into business for yourself. But there are only so many hours in the day, and making sure that you still leave time for yourself (and sometimes that means saying no!) is hugely important.
This is just scratching the surface. Jill and I would be happy to share more with you sometime! How about we get together and chat when we are in NYC? That would be wonderful!
-Jenn
